Time have change, even local loan shark or commonly known as “Ah Long” have now resorted to the popular social networking website, Facebook, to threaten and humiliate debtors into settling outstanding debts.
Traditional loan shark, used to splash red paint and paste posters with photos of debtor in neighborhood to humiliate their debtors but now, they are posting the debtors’ personal information on social website.
News came to light when a 25-year old victim whom had borrowed $1000 in September was forced to pay $80,000 inclusive of accrual interests three months later. The young man is seeking help from MCA Public Service and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong - this news is published in local daily The Star, on 17 November 2009
