Interesting article published in Hong Kong daily - The Straits Times on 31st January 2007 calling for the ban on sale of Fa Cai - a hair like sea moss that is widely consumed during Chinese New Year.

It is said the plant, known as Nostoc or black moss has no nutritional value instead it is found to contain a toxic amino acid that could affect the normal functions of nerve cell which could lead to degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and dementia.
